How to Become a Sister
Vows of Obedience, Poverty and Consecrated Chastity
Temporary Profession of Vows – The novice makes an official request to the Religious Congregation to make the vows of Obedience, Poverty and Consecrated Chastity to Jesus in the Religious Congregation of the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation. These vows are made with the full intent to make Perpetual Profession after three to six years.
- Vow of Obedience – “I have called you by name, you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1 Consecrated obedience calls the Sisters to surrender their entire lives to God in faith, hope and love. God, in turn, consecrates them through the Church, to God's glory and praise. The Sisters are always open and listening for God’s will in their lives.
- Vow of Poverty - “Seek first God’s kingship over you, God’s way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides.” Matthew 6:33 Out of love for Jesus, the Sisters vow poverty: they choose to put all goods in common, to live in a spirit of dependence and to share with those in need.
- Vow of Consecrated Chastity – “I will espouse you to me forever . . . and you shall know the Lord. “ Hosea 2:21a, 22b Consecrated chastity, assumed in faith, transforms life and renders it available to love. In giving oneself unreservedly to Christ, the Sisters open themselves to a friendship which is mutual and universal. Freed of the exclusive dimension which is proper to conjugal love, they are open to receive, and to love all as brothers and sisters in Christ.
